Lepidolite, like other micas, has a layered structure of lithium aluminium silicate sheets weakly bonded together by layers of potassium ions. The crystal habit includes tabular to prismatic crystals with a prominent pinacoid termination. Lepidolite's four prism faces and two pinacoid faces form pseudo-hexagonal crystal "books". The sides of the crystal often tend to tapper. Also as micaceous, lamellar or granular rock forming masses.
<span;>Lepidolite occurs a lilac, violet, pale pink or white and rarely grey or yellow crystals that have a vitreous to pearly lustre.
